France takes 2-0 Davis Cup lead against Germany

The former Australian Open runner-up Tsonga then made it 2-0 for the French with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3 win over German Benjamin Becker on Day 1.

France can advance to the quarterfinals in July with a doubles victory here on Saturday, as a French tandem of Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra is slated to take on a German duo of Kohlschreiber and Christopher Kas.

The nine-time Davis Cup champion French are captained by Guy Forget, while Patrik Kuhnen heads up the German contingent.

France is 5-2 all-time against three-time titlist Germany in a series that dates back to 1913. This marks their first meeting in four years.

The winner here will face the Spain-Switzerland victor in the round of eight.
