Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Posey was one of the best players in college baseball last season for Florida State, winning the 2008 Golden Spikes Award for the nation's top amateur player. He won every major player of the year award in 2008, including the Dick Howser Trophy, Brooks Wallace Award and the Johnny Bench Award for top catcher.

The former Seminole led the nation in batting average (.463), hits (119), runs batted in (93), total bases (226), slugging percentage (.879) and on-base percentage (.566).
