Mora helps Orioles crush Tigers

Baseball Betting Lines

08/15/2008 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Melvin Mora tripled, homered and drove in four runs to help give the Baltimore Orioles an 11-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a three-game set.

Chris Waters gave up two runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings, making in his third career start. He struck out one and walked one in the victory. Lance Cormier (2-3) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Brian Roberts went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Aubrey Huff added three hits and two RBI in Baltimore's third straight win.

Nate Robertson (7-9) continued to struggle, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing five runs -- four earned -- and eight hits while striking out four and walking five. Todd Jones also made his first appearance since July 30 after being out with right shoulder inflammation, and he gave up five runs, only three of which were earned, in just two-thirds of an inning.

Placido Polanco homered, Curtis Granderson went 3-for-5 and Gary Sheffield added two more hits as the Tigers lost for the fourth time in their last five games.

Baltimore got a run in the first. With two outs, Mora tripled to the gap in right-center field, and Huff hit an RBI single.

In the top of the second, following a Luke Scott double and Juan Castro walk, Roberts blooped a single to right field that turned into two runs when Magglio Ordonez's throw home hit Scott. The ball got away from catcher Brandon Inge, and Castro was able to race home safely for a three-run advantage.

Mora's 18th home run of the year led off the third to give Baltimore a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers finally got on the board in the fifth, cutting the deficit to two on Polanco's two-run homer.

Baltimore added another run in the sixth. Castro led off with a double, and three batters later Mora drove him home with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Orioles got some insurance runs in the ninth. Huff led off with a single, and Jones came on in relief. Kevin Millar greeted him with a double, and after an intentional walk to Jay Payton, Lou Montanez hit a grounder that Miguel Cabrera was unable to field at first, allowing a run to score and the bases to remain loaded.

Castro followed by hitting into a fielder's choice, allowing two runners to score after Polanco's throw to first appeared to be batted down by Montanez while sliding into second. An error was charged to Polanco, and the score ballooned to 8-2.

After two walks re-loaded the bases, Mora hit a two-RBI single and Huff followed with another RBI single to center, capping the scoring.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
